As always, use extreme caution when heading out. Most of the smaller lakes have 4 to 6 inches of ice, and less on the larger lakes like Bemidji.
There are "about 4-5 months of cold winter weather where the lakes freeze over enough to get some quality ice fishing in," according to Pure Michigan.
